PRESS RELEASE

Berjuan Toys Supports National Breastfeeding Month

Aventura, FL – (August 16, 2011) – August is National Breastfeeding Awareness Month and Berjuan Toys is helping to spread the word about the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ national campaign.

The awareness month, which hopes to empower women to commit to breastfeeding, highlights new research about the positive health benefits for both the baby and the mother.

According to the U.S. Department of Health, babies, who are exclusively breastfed for six months, are less likely to develop ear infections, diarrhea, respiratory illnesses, and become obese; while mothers, who breastfeed, have a lower risk of developing certain breast cancers.

Dennis Lewis, the U.S. representative for Berjuan Toys, said, “We’re very happy to support national breastfeeding awareness month. We’re pleased to spread the word that breastfeeding is a natural part of life and promote all of the wonderful benefits for both mother and child.”

Berjuan Toys, an international toy company specializing in manufacturing and marketing a variety of high quality dolls, is the maker of the new Breast Milk Baby (MSRP $69.99), a doll that helps young girls imitate mother’s nursing. “Our new doll has been embraced by dozens of advocacy groups because it helps support one of the most fundamental and natural caring means for a child,” Lewis explained. “Because of National Breastfeeding Month we hope that in some way, our doll encourages mothers and daughters to be more aware of breastfeeding as an option and learn about all of the healthy benefits of breastfeeding.”

In the United States, a study published by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention found that 75 percent of mothers began breastfeeding. However, by 6 months, the rate fell to 43% and was just 22% after a year. Breastfeeding rates vary across the country, from nearly 90 percent initiating breastfeeding in Utah to 52.5 percent in Mississippi.

At Berjuan, the company feels that its new Breast Milk Baby helps children learn through play and imitation about one of the ways to take care of a baby. “Many baby dolls come with plastic bottles as accessories. Our doll simply demonstrates the most natural way that a mother can feed her baby,” Lewis said.

The Breast Milk Baby simulates the breast-feeding process by including a fashionable halter-top that a young girl can put on like a vest and when she brings the Breast Milk Baby doll’s mouth up to the pretty flower decoration on the vest the doll makes a soft, suckling sound. The two flowers on the halter are positioned where the nipples would be and when the mouth of the doll is brought close to the embedded sensors in the flower, the baby makes motions and suckling sounds.
